Neurodivergence Assessment
Understanding Your Neurotype Through Comprehensive Evaluation
We provide thorough neurodivergence assessments to help you understand how your mind works and access the support you need. While our expertise includes identifying autism and ADHD, our goal is to comprehensively map your neurotype. We identify patterns of strengths and differences that may also include traits associated with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, and other variations in brain processing. This process gives you a full characterization of your mind, not just a label.
We also offer comprehensive neuropsychological assessments for learning differences, cognitive evaluation, and other areas – learn more about neuropsychological services
Types of Neurodivergence Assessment
- Autism Assessment Our autism evaluations use current diagnostic tools alongside specialized measures for masking, sensory processing, demand avoidance patterns, personality traits, camouflaging strategies, and more. We understand that autism can look very different depending on how well someone has learned to navigate neurotypical expectations.
- ADHD Assessment Our ADHD evaluation includes attention and executive functioning measures, along with assessment of emotional processing and regulation patterns, sensory processing, demand avoidance, camouflaging strategies, personality traits, and more. We examine how living with ADHD changes your experience of daily life, relationships, and work or study.
- Comprehensive Neurotype Evaluation This assessment is for individuals who want a deep understanding of how they experience and process the world, rather than focusing on a single diagnosis. We explore a broad range of areas including executive functioning, learning styles, sensory processing, emotional regulation, personality traits, and your unique patterns of strengths and differences. The result is a detailed, personalized map of your mind, providing you with language and insights to understand yourself more deeply.
Our Person-Centered Approach
- Comprehensive Evaluation Tools We use formal assessment instruments designed to identify neurodivergent neurotypes in adults. This includes measures for masking behaviors, sensory profiles, demand avoidance, emotional processing, and autistic burnout. Our tools are selected based on current research and their ability to identify neurodivergence across different presentations.
- Cross-Screening Approach All our autism assessments include ADHD screening, and all ADHD assessments include autism screening. This matters because mixed neurotypes are common and can create presentations that differ significantly from what one might expect from either neurotype alone.
- Experience-Centered Process Our assessment focuses heavily on understanding your lived experiences rather than just observing behaviors. The process centers on learning about your internal world, how you experience sensory input, social situations, and daily challenges.
- Individual Tailoring We recognize that neurodivergent presentations vary enormously. Rather than looking for a standard set of traits, we explore how your specific neurotype shows up in your life, including the strategies you’ve developed and the environments where you thrive or struggle.
Your Assessment Journey: Step by Step
- Preparation and Questionnaires Before your sessions, you’ll complete detailed questionnaires about your experiences, development, and current functioning. This helps us prepare and focus our evaluation effectively.
- Assessment Sessions The assessment takes place across two consecutive one-hour sessions. This allows for thorough exploration without being overwhelming. We adapt timing and take breaks as needed to ensure your comfort.
- Feedback Session Approximately two weeks later, we meet to discuss your results. This session focuses on helping you understand your neurotype and what the findings mean for your daily life.
- Written Report Your comprehensive report is typically delivered within 3-4 weeks. The timing depends on which type of report you need and its intended use.
- Ongoing Support We can offer ongoing sessions to help you weave this new knowledge into your sense of self, your relationships, and your daily life.
How Your Assessment Can Help
- Relief, Validation, and a Path Forward: There’s something profound about finally understanding how your mind works. Most people describe a deep sense of relief, like puzzle pieces clicking into place. You suddenly have language for experiences you’ve carried alone and a roadmap for moving forward.
- Official Documentation: We provide report formats tailored to your needs, from diagnostic summaries for official purposes to comprehensive neurotype profiles with specific recommendations.
- Access to Support: Assessment documentation can support applications for NDIS funding, workplace accommodations, educational support, and other services.
- Effective Treatment Planning: The results help identify which therapeutic approaches will work best with your neurotype, which is vital if you’ve found previous mental health support unhelpful.
- Tools for Self-Advocacy: You gain language and frameworks for navigating work, education, and social settings, helping you request reasonable adjustments and succeed on your own terms.
