ADHD Assessment

Understand your neurotype with clarity and compassion

Our approach to ADHD assessment

Mindkit Psychology provides ADHD assessments for adults and young people in Melbourne. We use evidence-based tools alongside clinical expertise to understand your neurology, experiences, and strengths.

We recognise that ADHD presents differently across ages, genders, and backgrounds. Our assessments account for masking, co-occurring presentations, and the many ways ADHD shows up in daily life.

What an assessment can offer

An ADHD assessment can help you:

  • Make sense of lifelong patterns and experiences you’ve struggled to explain
  • Access evidence-based strategies and accommodations
  • Understand your unique cognitive profile
  • Qualify for workplace or academic adjustments
  • Connect with ADHD coaching and therapy
  • Explore medication options with a psychiatrist

Note: Psychologists can’t prescribe medication, but our reports provide psychiatrists with what they need to support you. We can also refer you to neurodiversity-affirming psychiatrists we trust.

The assessment process

We take time to understand you as a whole person – your history, strengths, experiences, and how you move through the world.

  • Free discovery call (15 minutes): A chance to ask questions, understand what’s involved, and see if this feels right for you.
  • Background information: We gather relevant history, previous reports, and school records if available.
  • Questionnaires and standardised measures: You’ll complete questionnaires about current and childhood functioning.
  • Clinical interview (2-3 hours): A collaborative conversation exploring your life, experiences, strengths, and how ADHD may show up for you. Breaks are built in.
  • Collateral information (optional): If it would be helpful, we can speak with someone who knows you well – a family member or close friend.
  • Report and feedback session: You’ll receive a detailed report with assessment outcomes and personalised recommendations. We meet to discuss the findings, answer your questions, and talk through what might be helpful next.

Who is this assessment for?

Adults and adolescents (13+) who relate to the experience of ADHD, including:

  • People who relate to the experience of ADHD but haven’t had a formal assessment
  • Those seeking clarity after years of struggling
  • Anyone needing documentation for NDIS, workplace, or educational support
  • People wanting to explore medication pathways
  • Those wondering whether they may be both autistic and ADHD

Note: Psychologists can’t prescribe medication, but our reports give psychiatrists what they need to support you. We can refer you to neurodiversity-affirming psychiatrists we trust.

ADHD coaching

Beyond assessment, we offer ADHD coaching to help you build practical systems that fit your life. Strategies for focus, organisation, and actually getting things done.

What's included

  • Comprehensive clinical report: A detailed account of how ADHD shows up for you, with clear assessment outcomes if criteria are met.
  • Feedback session: Time with your clinician to discuss findings and ask questions.
  • Personalised recommendations: Suggestions for strategies, supports, and next steps tailored to you.
  • Documentation for your needs: Official documentation suitable for psychiatrists, NDIS applications, or workplace and educational accommodations.

Practical information

  • Location: Assessments are available in-person at our Brunswick East office or via telehealth across Australia.
  • Time involved: The assessment session takes approximately 2-3 hours, with breaks included. The full process, including questionnaires, interviews, and report writing, typically takes several weeks.
  • Support people: They are welcome to join for the interview.
  • How to prepare: Bring any previous reports or school records if you have them. Come rested, hydrated, and having taken your usual medications. There’s no need to prepare or study, we want to understand you as you are.

Fees and funding

Assessment fees vary based on complexity, and a deposit is required when booking. Funding options include:

  • Some private health funds offer limited rebates (check with your provider)
  • Our reports can support NDIS applications
  • Medicare rebates may be available for people under 25 with a specialist referral (from a psychiatrist or paediatrician) for “complex neurodevelopmental assessment”
  • Reports support psychiatrist consultations for medication
