Is Executive Function Coaching the right service for me?

You do not need to be failing at everything to benefit from executive function coaching. Many people arrive because they can do complex work, care for other people or solve difficult problems, while relatively ordinary tasks keep consuming disproportionate time and energy.

Coaching may be useful when the difficulty is less about knowing what to do and more about reliably doing it.

That can include getting started, deciding what comes first, remembering the plan once the day changes, building routines that survive a disrupted week, or finishing tasks after the interesting part is over.

A formal Autism or ADHD assessment is not required. Coaching can also sit alongside therapy when practical executive-function work and psychological work both matter.

YOU DO NOT NEED A FORMAL AUTISM OR ADHD ASSESSMENT

Self-identified and questioning neurodivergent people are welcome. You do not need documentation to be taken seriously here.

What can Executive Function Coaching help with?

The point is not to find the one perfect planner or productivity system. The work is to identify what is getting in the way, build a workable support around it, then change the system when the system stops working.

Starting, planning and prioritising

  • Task initiation and behavioural activation, including reducing the number of steps between intending to do something and beginning it.
  • Planning and prioritisation, especially when several tasks all feel equally urgent or the plan becomes unusable once circumstances change.
  • Time management and estimating how long things will take.

Systems and routines

  • Organisation systems for work, study, appointments, paperwork, digital information and day-to-day admin.
  • Routines that are realistic for the person’s actual energy, attention and sensory needs.
  • Accountability and goal setting that provide enough external structure without turning the week into a punishment schedule.

Work, study and practice between sessions

  • Work and study support, including breaking large tasks into usable steps and building systems around deadlines.
  • Practical strategies for motivation, overload and emotional regulation where the work remains within a coaching scope.
  • Skills practice between sessions, with strategies tested and adjusted against what happened in real life.

This is not a complete list. If you are unsure whether coaching, therapy or support work fits, book a free 15-minute consult.

How does Executive Function Coaching work?

The work is built around the tasks and demands that are actually in your week.

Get in touch

Tell us roughly what you want help with, and we can work out whether psychologist-led coaching, therapy or support work is the best fit. If you are unsure, book a free 15-minute consult first.

Choose the pathway

We will help you work out whether psychologist-led executive function coaching or therapy is the better fit for the work you want to do.

Bring a real problem

Sessions work from the tasks, systems and demands that are actually present in your week.

Test the strategy, then review

The useful question is whether the plan survives real life. If it does not, the strategy gets changed. Coaching can continue while it remains useful, and it can sit alongside therapy where both forms of support are needed.

What are the sessions like?

Coaching sessions are practical. Bring a current task, system or problem and work on it in the session.

What a session can cover

Plan the next fortnight, rebuild a routine, break down a project, set reminders or adapt a strategy that is hard to use.

Testing strategies between sessions

Test the strategy in ordinary life. At the next session, keep what helped and change what did not.

How you can be in the session

You can use notes, move around, fidget, eat or drink, and join from a place that works for telehealth. You do not need to sit still.
YOUR COACH

ADHD Coach

Phoebe works with ADHD adults on the practical side of executive functioning: getting started, planning and prioritising, time management, organisation, routines, motivation, accountability, work and study demands, and building strategies that can be tested in ordinary life. Her sessions are practical and collaborative. Movement, fidgeting, eating or drinking, using notes and joining from a place that makes telehealth easier are all compatible with the work.

Which coaching pathway do I need?

Executive function work is currently available through a Mindkit psychologist. The right pathway depends on what you want to work on and whether the work needs to include psychotherapy or other clinical treatment.

With a Mindkit psychologist

Psychologist-led work is available to adults and teenagers, by telehealth across Australia and in person at Brunswick East. Executive function coaching can be integrated with psychological therapy when attention, emotions, trauma, burnout, relationships or other mental health concerns also need clinical treatment.

With Phoebe Stevens, ADHD Coach

When appointments are available, Phoebe works with adults by telehealth, focusing on practical executive-function work including planning, organisation, routines, task initiation, behavioural activation, accountability, and study and work support. Phoebe provides coaching, not psychotherapy. She does not provide Autism or ADHD assessment, psychotherapy or trauma treatment, risk assessment, or prescribing.

Fees for Executive Function Coaching

Coaching attracts GST, unlike psychology services. Psychologist-led coaching is charged at the Individual Therapy fee and does not have a separate coaching price.

Executive Function Coaching FAQ

No. You can use executive function coaching without a formal assessment. The work starts from the difficulties you want help with and the systems you are trying to build.
No. Executive functioning can be difficult for many reasons. Mindkit psychologists can work with Autistic and ADHD adults and teenagers, and Phoebe’s coaching is focused on ADHD adults.
Coaching focuses on practical strategies, systems, skills practice, accountability and applying plans in daily life. Some executive-function problems are inseparable from what is happening psychologically. If trauma, severe anxiety or depression, eating difficulties, self-harm, suicidality, relationship difficulties or other mental health concerns need treatment, psychologist-led therapy is the appropriate clinical service.
The distinction is about the work being done. Coaching focuses on building and practising systems. Psychotherapy addresses psychological symptoms, emotional patterns and clinical treatment needs. A person can use both services when both kinds of work are relevant.
Executive function difficulties often become most visible where a person has to manage several streams of information at once. Coaching can work directly with the systems around work, university or TAFE, household administration, appointments and recurring tasks.
The work can include deciding what needs a system and what can be left alone, reducing unnecessary steps and setting up external reminders. It can also involve breaking a large task into usable pieces or adding enough structure for boring or delayed-reward tasks to happen more reliably.
Where workplace accommodations or a formal report are needed, coaching can sit alongside the separate Workplace Accommodations Assessment service. Coaching itself does not produce a formal accommodations assessment or guarantee an employer or funding outcome.
Individual Therapy provides psychological treatment for mental health, trauma, emotional patterns, relationships and executive functioning, with coaching strategies integrated where useful.
Support Work provides broader practical day-to-day support that can stand alone and does not need to sit under a therapy plan.
Therapy Assistant provides practical support for implementing work from therapy under the direction and supervision of the treating Mindkit psychologist.
Workplace Accommodations Assessment provides a formal assessment and report where documented workplace recommendations are needed.
Autism and ADHD Assessment services are separate clinical services for people who want a formal outcome. Assessment is not required before coaching.
