Assessment is comprehensive, involving information gathering from multiple sources and administration of formal assessment measures. Assessment can identify highly “masked” presentations of Autism that do not fit common assumptions.
Please note: Assessments are available for teens and adults, and are not currently offered for children below the age of 13.

Autism assessment is available at our offices in Abbotsford, Melbourne, or via Telehealth.
Waiting times for assessment vary depending on the type of assessment required. Please contact us for more information or to make a booking.
Self-referrals are accepted in most cases. However, a referral letter from your doctor, psychologist or support coordinator is preferred.
- Prior to the assessment, provide any relevant test results (e.g. school reports, imaging reports, or other relevant medical information such as your list of medications).
- On the day of the assessment, take any medications as usual.
- Try to get a good night’s sleep the night before.
- Ensure you have food and water for the duration of the assessment.
Yes, a career, family member, or other support person can attend with you. While they may provide information during the initial interview stage of assessment, they will be asked to leave prior to formal testing in order to ensure privacy is maintained.
The testing appointment usually takes around 3 hours including breaks, though the length of the assessment may vary depending on what is needed. Assessments generally take place in the morning, but timing can be modified if required.
Your results are shared with you and with the referrer. You may choose to ask the referrer to share this information with other treating professionals.
Fees for assessment vary according to the nature and complexity of the assessment. A $200 deposit is required one week prior to assessment. Please contact us for further information about fees.
Medicare rebates are available for individuals under 25 years when referred by a psychiatrist or paediatrician. The referral must be for a “complex neurodevelopmental assessment”. GP referrals are not acceptable under Medicare rules for any portion of the assessment process.
While some private health funds offer a rebate for assessment, this is rare. Please consult with your health fund to find out what is covered. The NDIS may fund Autism assessment in some cases.
